From DIY SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics to Simple Support Technologies

Hey Alessandro, sorry I’m seeing this message a bit late. If you’re still looking for a BSL2 I can try ask my friends at the WSL in Birmensdorf? They have up to BSL3.

Sorry I didn’t follow the topic until now… You still need a BSL2 lab to work in?

Hi,

well after the shutting of the labs at Irchel, and being seriously threatened by authorities if we do things outside BSL2 we have stopped completely. There are several quick tests that will be ready on the market soon, but it could be still interesting if we can proceed as our approach is different than the rapidtests that will arrive. Where are you located?

hola to all!
we are trying for something big ‘Do It Together’ under the umbrella of TL’s JOGL (that has now finally really taken off with this covid19 initiative)…
what do you think, if I stole the little virus emoji from Whatsapp, will that a problem??
https://app.jogl.io/project/181/
the great thing is that there was a lot of open info for molecular diagnostics and our team has already improved one commercial result by a very slight change to the expt… (and one participant can use BSL2!!)
hoping I can run some tests in the (empty) lab, even if only with controls, after our current quarantine (my 17-year-old hopefully had some other flu- 2 days of 39+ fever, but back to normal already and no big coughing… we will see! definitely not going anywhere until after easter, I guess.)
Luckily I saved the dinos from the lab, and wish I could get some better videos of the tapping tests we have been doing each evening… =)

everyone take care!
vive open science and bioart fun…

here’s a couple of pics:
swirled dinos and tapped (both with 10s exps with F3.5 and huge ISO 6400)

the virus emoji: virion

I think this is very interesting too:

check it out
(interactive ‘lineages’ of muts in a variety of formats…)

and take care!

one last point - the urban garden expt is on again, at least!
here are mine…
I have 3 sets of pots too, with different composts, in this pic, and another set of clumps of plants in another part of the garden.

If you didn’t hear about this before, it is the 3rd time we are trying the expt with symbiotic bacteria for the roots of pea plants…

ok, ciao for now! stay well!

Dear @ALL

Sorry for being silent the last few months, lots of changes (good ones).

Is this topic still relevant? I have my Lab (MeridiaDNA) upped to BSL2 Level, because i do some research regarding detection of pathogens. I would be happy to discuss ideas about what can (and should) be done regarding SARS-CoV-2, but be advised that any culturing or similar operation of this virus is BSL3

best regards from rainy Simmental
